National Palliative Care Week begins on Sunday May 21 and runs until Sunday May 28. The theme for National Palliative Care Week 2017 is ‘You Matter. Your care matters. Palliative Care Can Make a Difference.’ The focus this year is on aged care.


More than 350,000 Australians are cared for in the aged care system. Many of these people will face the end of their lives in these facilities. This experience should be as comfortable and as positive as possible.

Specialist Palliative care services take a team approach and collaborate with other health providers, especially aged care providers, to ensure that care provided is focused on the whole individual, their physical, emotional, practical and spiritual needs.


On Tuesday 23 May, Minister for Health Greg Hunt will be launching the online interactive versions of the Dying to Talk Discussion Starter and Card Game, both of which can be accessed via the Dying to Talk website:
